第 18:01 さて、モーセのしゅうと、ミデアンの祭司エテロは、神がモーセと、み民イスラエルとにされたすべての事、主がイスラエルをエジプトから導き出されたことを聞いた。	1 Now Jethro, the priest of Midian, Moses' father-in-law, heard of all that God had done for Moses, and for Israel his people, how that Jehovah had brought Israel out of Egypt.	וַיִּשְׁמַע יִתְרֹו כֹהֵן מִדְיָן חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה אֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה אֱלֹהִים לְמֹשֶׁה וּלְיִשְׂרָאֵל עַמֹּו כִּי־הֹוצִיא יְהוָה אֶת־יִשְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרָיִם׃	1
18:02 それでモーセのしゅうと、エテロは、さきに送り返されていたモーセの妻チッポラと、	2 And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took Zipporah, Moses' wife, after he had sent her away,	וַיִּקַּח יִתְרֹו חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה אֶת־צִפֹּרָה אֵשֶׁת מֹשֶׁה אַחַר שִׁלּוּחֶיהָ׃	2
18:03 そのふたりの子とを連れてきた。そのひとりの名はゲルショムといった。モーセが、「わたしは外国で寄留者となっている」と言ったからである。	3 and her two sons; of whom the name of the one was Gershom; for he said, I have been a sojourner in a foreign land:	וְאֵת שְׁנֵי בָנֶיהָ אֲשֶׁר שֵׁם הָאֶחָד גֵּרְשֹׁם כִּי אָמַר גֵּר הָיִיתִי בְּאֶרֶץ נָכְרִיָּה׃	3
18:04 ほかのひとりの名はエリエゼルといった。「わたしの父の神はわたしの助けであって、パロのつるぎからわたしを救われた」と言ったからである。	4 and the name of the other was Eliezer; for he said, The God of my father was my help, and delivered me from the sword of Pharaoh.	וְשֵׁם הָאֶחָד אֱלִיעֶזֶר כִּי־אֱלֹהֵי אָבִי בְּעֶזְרִי וַיַּצִּלֵנִי מֵחֶרֶב פַּרְעֹה׃	4
18:05 こうしてモーセのしゅうと、エテロは、モーセの妻子を伴って、荒野に行き、神の山に宿営しているモーセの所にきた。	5 And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, came with his sons and his wife unto Moses into the wilderness where he was encamped, at the mount of God:	וַיָּבֹא יִתְרֹו חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה וּבָנָיו וְאִשְׁתֹּו אֶל־מֹשֶׁה אֶל־הַמִּדְבָּר אֲשֶׁר־הוּא חֹנֶה שָׁם הַר הָאֱלֹהִים׃	5
18:06 その時、ある人がモーセに言った、「ごらんなさい。あなたのしゅうと、エテロは、あなたの妻とそのふたりの子を連れて、あなたの所にこられます」。	6 and he said unto Moses, I, thy father-in-law Jethro, am come unto thee, and thy wife, and her two sons with her.	וַיֹּאמֶר אֶל־מֹשֶׁה אֲנִי חֹתֶנְךָ יִתְרֹו בָּא אֵלֶיךָ וְאִשְׁתְּךָ וּשְׁנֵי בָנֶיהָ עִמָּהּ׃	6
18:07 そこでモーセはしゅうとを出迎えて、身をかがめ、彼に口づけして、互に安否を問い、共に天幕にはいった。	7 And Moses went out to meet his father-in-law, and did obeisance, and kissed him: and they asked each other of their welfare; and they came into the tent.	וַיֵּצֵא מֹשֶׁה לִקְרַאת חֹתְנֹו וַיִּשְׁתַּחוּ וַיִּשַּׁק־לֹו וַיִּשְׁאֲלוּ אִישׁ־לְרֵעֵהוּ לְשָׁלֹום וַיָּבֹאוּ הָאֹהֱלָה׃	7
18:08 そしてモーセは、主がイスラエルのために、パロとエジプトびととにされたすべての事、道で出会ったすべての苦しみ、また主が彼らを救われたことを、しゅうとに物語ったので、	8 And Moses told his father-in-law all that Jehovah had done unto Pharaoh and to the Egyptians for Israel's sake, all the travail that had come upon them by the way, and how Jehovah delivered them.	וַיְסַפֵּר מֹשֶׁה לְחֹתְנֹו אֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר עָשָׂה יְהוָה לְפַרְעֹה וּלְמִצְרַיִם עַל אֹודֹת יִשְׂרָאֵל אֵת כָּל־הַתְּלָאָה אֲשֶׁר מְצָאָתַם בַּדֶּרֶךְ וַיַּצִּלֵם יְהוָה׃	8
18:09 エテロは主がイスラエルをエジプトびとの手から救い出して、もろもろの恵みを賜わったことを喜んだ。	9 And Jethro rejoiced for all the goodness which Jehovah had done to Israel, in that he had delivered them out of the hand of the Egyptians.	וַיִּחַדְּ יִתְרֹו עַל כָּל־הַטֹּובָה אֲשֶׁר־עָשָׂה יְהוָה לְיִשְׂרָאֵל אֲשֶׁר הִצִּילֹו מִיַּד מִצְרָיִם׃	9
18:10 そしてエテロは言った、「主はほむべきかな。主はあなたがたをエジプトびとの手と、パロの手から救い出し、民をエジプトびとの手の下から救い出された。	10 And Jethro said, Blessed be Jehovah, who hath delivered you out of the hand of the Egyptians, and out of the hand of Pharaoh; who hath delivered the people from under the hand of the Egyptians.	וַיֹּאמֶר יִתְרֹו בָּרוּךְ יְהוָה אֲשֶׁר הִצִּיל אֶתְכֶם מִיַּד מִצְרַיִם וּמִיַּד פַּרְעֹה אֲשֶׁר הִצִּיל אֶת־הָעָם מִתַּחַת יַד־מִצְרָיִם׃	10
18:11 今こそわたしは知った。実に彼らはイスラエルびとにむかって高慢にふるまったが、主はあらゆる神々にまさって大いにいますことを」。	11 Now I know that Jehovah is greater than all gods; yea, in the thing wherein they dealt proudly against them.	עַתָּה יָדַעְתִּי כִּי־גָדֹול יְהוָה מִכָּל־הָאֱלֹהִים כִּי בַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר זָדוּ עֲלֵיהֶם׃	11
18:12 そしてモーセのしゅうとエテロは燔祭と犠牲を神に供え、アロンとイスラエルの長老たちもみなきて、モーセのしゅうとと共に神の前で食事をした。	12 And Jethro, Moses' father-in-law, took a burnt-offering and sacrifices for God: and Aaron came, and all the elders of Israel, to eat bread with Moses' father-in-law before God.	וַיִּקַּח יִתְרֹו חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה עֹלָה וּזְבָחִים לֵאלֹהִים וַיָּבֹא אַהֲרֹן וְכֹל ׀ זִקְנֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל לֶאֱכָל־לֶחֶם עִם־חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה לִפְנֵי הָאֱלֹהִים׃	12
18:13 あくる日モーセは座して民をさばいたが、民は朝から晩まで、モーセのまわりに立っていた。	13 And it came to pass on the morrow, that Moses sat to judge the people: and the people stood about Moses from the morning unto the evening.	וַיְהִי מִמָּחֳרָת וַיֵּשֶׁב מֹשֶׁה לִשְׁפֹּט אֶת־הָעָם וַיַּעֲמֹד הָעָם עַל־מֹשֶׁה מִן־הַבֹּקֶר עַד־הָעָרֶב׃	13
18:14 モーセのしゅうとは、彼がすべて民にしていることを見て、言った、「あなたが民にしているこのことはなんですか。あなたひとりが座し、民はみな朝から晩まで、あなたのまわりに立っているのはなぜですか」。	14 And when Moses' father-in-law saw all that he did to the people, he said, What is this thing that thou doest to the people? why sittest thou thyself alone, and all the people stand about thee from morning unto even?	וַיַּרְא חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה אֵת כָּל־אֲשֶׁר־הוּא עֹשֶׂה לָעָם וַיֹּאמֶר מָה־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה עֹשֶׂה לָעָם מַדּוּעַ אַתָּה יֹושֵׁב לְבַדֶּךָ וְכָל־הָעָם נִצָּב עָלֶיךָ מִן־בֹּקֶר עַד־עָרֶב׃	14
18:15 モーセはしゅうとに言った、「民が神に伺おうとして、わたしの所に来るからです。	15 And Moses said unto his father-in-law, Because the people come unto me to inquire of God:	וַיֹּאמֶר מֹשֶׁה לְחֹתְנֹו כִּי־יָבֹא אֵלַי הָעָם לִדְרֹשׁ אֱלֹהִים׃	15
18:16 彼らは事があれば、わたしの所にきます。わたしは相互の間をさばいて、神の定めと判決を知らせるのです」。	16 when they have a matter, they come unto me; and I judge between a man and his neighbor, and I make them know the statutes of God, and his laws.	כִּי־יִהְיֶה לָהֶם דָּבָר בָּא אֵלַי וְשָׁפַטְתִּי בֵּין אִישׁ וּבֵין רֵעֵהוּ וְהֹודַעְתִּי אֶת־חֻקֵּי הָאֱלֹהִים וְאֶת־תֹּורֹתָיו׃	16
18:17 モーセのしゅうとは彼に言った、「あなたのしていることは良くない。	17 And Moses' father-in-law said unto him, The thing that thou doest is not good.	וַיֹּאמֶר חֹתֵן מֹשֶׁה אֵלָיו לֹא־טֹוב הַדָּבָר אֲשֶׁר אַתָּה עֹשֶׂה׃	17
18:18 あなたも、あなたと一緒にいるこの民も、必ず疲れ果てるであろう。このことはあなたに重過ぎるから、ひとりですることができない。	18 Thou wilt surely wear away, both thou, and this people that is with thee: for the thing is too heavy for thee; thou art not able to perform it thyself alone.	נָבֹל תִּבֹּל גַּם־אַתָּה גַּם־הָעָם הַזֶּה אֲשֶׁר עִמָּךְ כִּי־כָבֵד מִמְּךָ הַדָּבָר לֹא־תוּכַל עֲשֹׂהוּ לְבַדֶּךָ׃	18
18:19 今わたしの言うことを聞きなさい。わたしはあなたに助言する。どうか神があなたと共にいますように。あなたは民のために神の前にいて、事件を神に述べなさい。	19 Hearken now unto my voice, I will give thee counsel, and God be with thee: be thou for the people to God-ward, and bring thou the causes unto God:	עַתָּה שְׁמַע בְּקֹלִי אִיעָצְךָ וִיהִי אֱלֹהִים עִמָּךְ הֱיֵה אַתָּה לָעָם מוּל הָאֱלֹהִים וְהֵבֵאתָ אַתָּה אֶת־הַדְּבָרִים אֶל־הָאֱלֹהִים׃	19
18:20 あなたは彼らに定めと判決を教え、彼らの歩むべき道と、なすべき事を彼らに知らせなさい。	20 and thou shalt teach them the statutes and the laws, and shalt show them the way wherein they must walk, and the work that they must do.	וְהִזְהַרְתָּה אֶתְהֶם אֶת־הַחֻקִּים וְאֶת־הַתֹּורֹת וְהֹודַעְתָּ לָהֶם אֶת־הַדֶּרֶךְ יֵלְכוּ בָהּ וְאֶת־הַמַּעֲשֶׂה אֲשֶׁר יַעֲשׂוּן׃	20
18:21 また、すべての民のうちから、有能な人で、神を恐れ、誠実で不義の利を憎む人を選び、それを民の上に立てて、千人の長、百人の長、五十人の長、十人の長としなさい。	21 Moreover thou shalt provide out of all the people able men, such as fear God, men of truth, hating unjust gain; and place such over them, to be rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens:	וְאַתָּה תֶחֱזֶה מִכָּל־הָעָם אַנְשֵׁי־חַיִל יִרְאֵי אֱלֹהִים אַנְשֵׁי אֱמֶת שֹׂנְאֵי בָצַע וְשַׂמְתָּ עֲלֵהֶם שָׂרֵי אֲלָפִים שָׂרֵי מֵאֹות שָׂרֵי חֲמִשִּׁים וְשָׂרֵי עֲשָׂרֹת׃	21
18:22 平素は彼らに民をさばかせ、大事件はすべてあなたの所に持ってこさせ、小事件はすべて彼らにさばかせなさい。こうしてあなたを身軽にし、あなたと共に彼らに、荷を負わせなさい。	22 and let them judge the people at all seasons: and it shall be, that every great matter they shall bring unto thee, but every small matter they shall judge themselves: so shall it be easier for thyself, and they shall bear the burden with thee.	וְשָׁפְטוּ אֶת־הָעָם בְּכָל־עֵת וְהָיָה כָּל־הַדָּבָר הַגָּדֹל יָבִיאוּ אֵלֶיךָ וְכָל־הַדָּבָר הַקָּטֹן יִשְׁפְּטוּ־הֵם וְהָקֵל מֵעָלֶיךָ וְנָשְׂאוּ אִתָּךְ׃	22
18:23 あなたが、もしこの事を行い、神もまたあなたに命じられるならば、あなたは耐えることができ、この民もまた、みな安んじてその所に帰ることができよう」。	23 If thou shalt do this thing, and God command thee so, then thou shalt be able to endure, and all this people also shall go to their place in peace.	אִם אֶת־הַדָּבָר הַזֶּה תַּעֲשֶׂה וְצִוְּךָ אֱלֹהִים וְיָכָלְתָּ עֲמֹד וְגַם כָּל־הָעָם הַזֶּה עַל־מְקֹמֹו יָבֹא בְשָׁלֹום׃	23
18:24 モーセはしゅうとの言葉に従い、すべて言われたようにした。	24 So Moses hearkened to the voice of his father-in-law, and did all that he had said.	וַיִּשְׁמַע מֹשֶׁה לְקֹול חֹתְנֹו וַיַּעַשׂ כֹּל אֲשֶׁר אָמָר׃	24
18:25 すなわち、モーセはすべてのイスラエルのうちから有能な人を選んで、民の上に長として立て、千人の長、百人の長、五十人の長、十人の長とした。	25 And Moses chose able men out of all Israel, and made them heads over the people, rulers of thousands, rulers of hundreds, rulers of fifties, and rulers of tens.	וַיִּבְחַר מֹשֶׁה אַנְשֵׁי־חַיִל מִכָּל־יִשְׂרָאֵל וַיִּתֵּן אֹתָם רָאשִׁים עַל־הָעָם שָׂרֵי אֲלָפִים שָׂרֵי מֵאֹות שָׂרֵי חֲמִשִּׁים וְשָׂרֵי עֲשָׂרֹת׃	25
18:26 平素は彼らが民をさばき、むずかしい事件はモーセに持ってきたが、小さい事件はすべて彼らみずからさばいた。	26 And they judged the people at all seasons: the hard causes they brought unto Moses, but every small matter they judged themselves.	וְשָׁפְטוּ אֶת־הָעָם בְּכָל־עֵת אֶת־הַדָּבָר הַקָּשֶׁה יְבִיאוּן אֶל־מֹשֶׁה וְכָל־הַדָּבָר הַקָּטֹן יִשְׁפּוּטוּ הֵם׃	26
18:27 こうしてモーセはしゅうとを送り返したので、その国に帰って行った。	27 And Moses let his father-in-law depart; and he went his way into his own land.	וַיְשַׁלַּח מֹשֶׁה אֶת־חֹתְנֹו וַיֵּלֶךְ לֹו אֶל־אַרְצֹו׃ פ	27
